Eger is the county seat of Heves County, and the second largest city in Northern Hungary after Miskolc.
The Eger Castle is a castle in Eger, Hungary. Historically, it is known for repelling the Turkish attack in 1552 during the Siege of Eger. Géza Gárdonyi wrote his popular historical novel Egri csillagok about the events of this period.
The Basilica of Eger is considered to be the second largest religious building in Hungary.
